Indo-Pak cricket match turns nightmare for Darbar move employees, their families in Jammu

Guards joined saffron group, shouted provocative slogans, harassed Govt quarters’ inmates: Employees

NGCSEU to take up issue with Chief Secretary

Minutes after India won 20-20 cricket match against Pakistan last evening, saffron groups allegedly with the help of locals entered the government quarters’ premises in Old City where Darbar move employees have been staying and allegedly shouted ‘provocative slogans’.

The incident has spread fear among the move employees and their families who have decided to meet Chief Secretary B R Sharma on Monday and seek proper security arrangements.

“Security guards at Ahata Amar Singh, Rehari and Panjtirthi Government quarters of Estates Department instead of stopping them from hooliganism also joined them,” alleged president of Non-Gazetted Civil Secretariat Employees Union (NGCSEU), Ghulam Rasool, while talking to us.

He said the incident has left everyone in tension and the employees have been worried about the safety and security of their families because, the locals were allowed inside even as security guards were present there.

“They shouted slogans like Agar Yahan Rehna Hai to Ram – Ram Kehna Hoga,” he recalled, while expressing concern over the growing fear among the move employees.

Expressing shock, he said, the security guards supposed to protect employees also joined the locals and allegedly harassed the move employees.

“We have seen such situation for the first time in Jammu. The local employees of Jammu posted with move office should remember that they were protected and supported in Kashmir and no one in Kashmir was allowed to touch them during turbulent situations,” he said. Acting on the complaints, he said, the SHO Pacca Danga reached there and two security guards were taken to the police station. Though the police acted swiftly but the incident has spread fear among the employees.

“We will meet the Chief Secretary and appeal him to give security to the move employees and their families,” Civil Secretariat Employee’s union leader told.
